Voice Chatting...

Hey guys, first of all, let me say that I'm still around. Life's been a little too busy for my tastes, lately. Anytime in the short term, I'll probably only be making it online for GRB until things settle down.

Anyways, I was thinking... (I know, scary, huh?) It doesn't seem that we still have a ventrilo server for voice chatting, is that correct? Either that, or I wasn't made aware that we still had one. Lol.

If that's the case, Jack has a Mumble server that we can use. If you don't know what Mumble is, it's a lot like Ventrilo, only better (according to Jack.) It's open source, so it's free.

If we're looking for a voice chat server, let me know and I'll ask Jack to make us a room on his server that we can use. If we still have a Ventrilo server... what's the server info? :-D

We have not voice-chatting available atm. We had teamspeak for awhile, but we lost that sometime around end of July two years ago. I remember it was cool to talk to everyone . So this would be all free? Sounds cool . Of course, there will be no pressure on anyone to use it if they don't want to. We'll have to see how it goes.

When you get it downloaded & installed, click on "add new..." and put in this information:

Servername: [Whatever you'd like to use to identify this server]
Address: jackpalmer.homeip.net
Port: 64738
Username: [The username you'd like to use. Pick wisely, because you'll be stuck with it.]

The first time you log in, it'll ask for a password. That password is "boomer" (all lowercase).

After you sign in, right-click on your name and select "register" and confirm. Our channel is "Reawakened Hope."

There's a temporary problem, though. Our network here in our area is having some issues, and we have to wait until Comcast fixes it (they say they'll work on it tomorrow). Until then, our internet is dropping and coming back all willy-nilly. So if you can't connect right away, don't fret.

THINK IT WOULD BE A COOL IDEA TO TRY AGAIN I HAVE USED IN GAME CHATS BEFORE WITH A DIFFERENT GAME AND IT HELPED IN COMMUNICATING WHEN IN A BATTLE WHICH I FEEL WOULD BE A GREAT BOOST TO US ESPECIALLY IN GRB's AS COMPARED TO TRYING TO TYPE AND FIGHT AT THE SAME TIME :p .... IN SHORT I AM WILLING TO GIVE IT A GO EVEN IF WE USE IT FOR NOTHING MORE THAN FOR GRB

Would be cool to have voice chat. we could use different rooms for diferent GRB teams

Hey guys. First of all, sorry. Comcast came out to look at the "problem" and they say they "fixed" it. It does seem to be behaving a bit more solidly now, but we're still having some connectivity problems. Grr!

Anyways, when you guys log on and register, you're able to create your own sub-channels under Reawakened Hope. Jack told me this, and I just tested it out for myself, and it does work.

They do automatically disappear after they are empty, though. So each team leader can make a channel for their team and stick in it. When GRB is done, just move back to the main channel.

Cool . I look forward to using this this Saturday. One thing, however, I'd like to be able to communicate with both teams at once. Is there a way for me to do that? Or will I have to stick to fussing at Caz beside me? lol

Even though I couldn't get online Yesterday, Jack says he saw you guys. We were just curious how things worked out.

Worked out great ! had small group but still managed to gain 20k+ pts which ranked us 19th !!!! WOOOOT

19th WOW !!! thats great guys/gals & i missed out on all of that fun too dang it... ~kicks rocks~ i will be gettin that installed on my pc too once i get it back (fingers crossed it dont cost much$$$)

Mumble is a Open Source program, so it's 100% Free.

Funk may be crossing his fingers on the pc fix lol . I hope to see y'all both in game soon, and we miss y'all too! Even when we manage to finagle 20k points out of GRB on our own. If everyone got to come, reckon we could make 30k?

Jack's having some issues with the server. An attempt to make some upgrades went awry. He's working on getting it back online.

Ah, ok, Jazi. We noticed it wasn't working quite like it should have Saturday . Good luck getting it all fixed and thanks . We enjoy using it.

Okay, he says everything is looking like it is back to normal. Part of the repair involved him reinstalling Ubuntu, so you might have to re-register or put passwords back in the first time you log in. The channels moved around a bit, too. But it's no biggie.

I hope I can make it, tomorrow, but I'm knee-deep in work, still. It's 1 in the morning and I'm still up. *yawn*
